2-Metre glider event SATURDAY 27th July

Just to let you know that there is 2-meter glider event coming up in a couple of weeks at Sittingbourne club.  This event is part of the Kent Interclub series of events and is a “for fun” challenge for Kent Interclub pilots (Invicta is part of KIC) with the aim of expanding interest in silent flight and to help pilots improve their thermal soaring skills.

This is a good opportunity to meet with other flyers and share insight and tips.  The rules are simple to enable relaxed qualifying flights (same rules as the monthly challenge mentioned in a previous bulletin)

The event is free to enter, so if you are interested all the details on what/where will be on the Kent Interclub forum page on BARCS (  https://www.barcs.co.uk/forums/forum/94-kent-interclub/ )

If you are on your own, help will be provided for launching timing etc.

Objectives:

The objective is fly your model glider 10 times over a 4-hour period with the aim of flying for 6 minutes in each flight.

The best 6 flights flight times will be entered as your score.  Points are awarded for every second flown. Max points 360.  Bring a stop watch if you have one.

Qualifying Models:

Anyone may enter with models that conform to the following:

  1. Wingspan – Models must have a wingspan of no more than 2-metres.
  2. Controls – Rudder, Elevator and ailerons and spoilers are allowed,
  3. If model has flaps these can only be used for brakes – camber changing must be switched off.
  4. Construction – Built-up balsa, foamie models and even moulded models permitted
  5. Launching – Electric or Gliders (See requirements for launching below)

What if my foamie is a bit bigger then 2-metre?  Whilst this event is aimed at 2-metre models, we may be able to work something out – just contact us.

Launching

  1. Glider – Identical hi-starts (bungee) are to be used to give a consistent launch.  The hi-start is comprised of a rubber tube of 15 (± 0.2) metre length, a nylon towline of 100 (± 1.0) meter length with a minimum diameter of 0.7 mm and a pennant attached in proximity of metal tow ring.
  2. Electric – Models must be fitted with an altitude height-limiter set to 100m and 30 seconds of power.  The device simply plugs in between the ESC and the receiver and most can be easily set for 100m

Timing

The flight is timed from when the model leaves the pilot/helpers hand

Note:  Don’t be put off if you don’t have a compliant bungee or Height-limiter, as these can be borrowed/shared on the day.
